A bequest is a gift made in your will. You can make bequests to individuals, companies, associations or charities. When you make a will you have the opportunity to ensure your care for others lives on.

A bequest or gift is one of the most important sources of funds for scosa and a meaningful way for you to make a lasting contribution.

The generosity of people who leave a bequest ensures we can continue to provide a range of quality community-based service options for people with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities.

There is an ongoing need for services and care to our clients and bequests play an integral role in ensuring this need is met. You can decide to nominate a particular bequest or gift eg. real estate or you may choose to bequeath a percentage of your estate.

Either way, this selfless and thoughtful gift will ensure that the work of scosa continues to make a real difference to the lives of so many South Australians.

Types of bequests: A bequest made to scosa may be:

  • a specific bequest -
the gift of a specific sum of money or nominated asset such as a house or other land, shares and other investments, life insurance, works of art or other valuables.
  • a bequest of your entire estate or a specified share or percentage of your entire estate (after all debts and expenses have been paid).
  • a residual bequest -
what remains of your estate after all debts and expenses have been paid and other gifts distributed or a specified share or percentage of your residuary estate.
  • after a life interest bequest - when property, such as a house, is left to a beneficiary to occupy or receive income from during their lifetime (or another specified period) and then passes to scosa.

Notifying scosa of your decision to leave a bequest in your will allows us to expand our services and plan for the future.

scosa gratefully accepts bequests and in acknowledgement of your gift we offer a commemorative leaf on our 'Tree of Life'

The Tree is a lasting 'growing' community tribute located at our Woodville Campus. Your name or name of your nominated loved one will be engraved on a leaf, which will be added to the tree. The Tree of Life will be a lasting memorial to you and your loved ones.

If you have complex family or personal relationships or significant assets (own your home or business plus have additional property or investments), it is a good idea to seek professional estate planning advice.

scosa recommends that you contact a professional advisor to draft the appropriate wording for your Will when leaving a bequest:

The following wording is a guide for your bequest:

"I give a pecuniary legacy of ... to scosa, the Spastic Centres of South Australia Inc and I direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper official for the time being, shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustee"

If you do not already have a Will, or it needs updating, mention this website and you will receive a 10% discount on all estate planning services with Australian Executor Trustees. Simply call 1800 882 218 to arrange an appointment today.
