Cocktail Party

scosa held their "Outback at the Maid" cocktail party on Wednesday 16 April, not only to fundraise but to have some fun and let the world know a bit more about us!

'Outback at the Maid' was hosted by Mix102.3's Sean Craig Murphy with some additional fun provided by Fin Designer Jewellery who provided a select range of lovely jewellery, Media Makeup who offered free mini makeovers for guests and of course Yuffa Dunning from Zhav International who generously donated the gift bags for everybody.

The event was held in the Barn of the Maid & Magpie with staff & volunteers dressing up as jackaroos and jillaroos to help theme the night.

Around a 100 guests attended. In addition to great food and wine, there was entertainment by 2 Kool Kats and the chance to win a $300 Outback door prize. The event raised a whopping $7,400 which will go a long way in helping support our clients throughout South Australia.

If you would like to come along to our next fun Cocktail Party, simply call us on (08) 8347 2664 to register your details or email info@scosa.com.au.

Our next party will be held in November so make sure you call us soon to register your details as tickets sell fast.

Mobile Phone Recycling

To help support the 'Don't Dump it, Donate it' campaign, we have a number of Mobile Phone Recycling bins located around Adelaide and regional South Australia to help raise funds for our popular camp programme.

Most of us have an old mobile phone at home that we will never use again, but we are not sure how to dispose of them safely.

Now they can be donated to scosa through a range of organisations who are supporting the 'Don't dump it, donate it' campaign.

  • Big W (selected stores throughout South Australia)
  • ETSA Utilities (Keswick)
  • CPS Credit Union (10 x locations)
  • Mid Murray Community Centre (Mannum)
  • scosa Hubs (regional & metropolitan)

scosa receives between $3-$5 from the Aussie Recycling Program (ARP) for every mobile phone donated.

Phones that are not damaged or too old get cleaned, repaired and sent overseas for re-sale in developing countries where access to mobile phones is limited. All other mobile phones are fully recycled, and all component parts including gold, copper, toxic metals and plastics are extracted and put back to productive use, rather than going into landfill.

The valuable money raised from the mobile phone recycling will go to assist many regional families enjoy a much needed break at one of our popular camps. These camps provide clients with lots of opportunities to make new friends, visit exciting places and have a short holiday.

According to ARP Australians buy new mobiles at the rate of 3-4 million phones a year, and it is estimated that around 10-18 million phones are lying around in desks and drawers.

South Australians can drop off their unwanted phones at any of the organisations listed below including the scosa Hubs at Port Pirie and Clare and the head office at Woodville.

By donating your old mobile phones to scosa, you not only help support a great South Australian icon support more people with disabilities, but also contribute to the improvement of communication infrastructure in developing countries and also help to reduce the amount of toxic materials going to landfill.

If you would like to have a Mobile Phone Recycling bin at your work, please contact us on (08) 8347 2664 or email info@scosa.com.au

Fundraising volunteer groups

There are a number of dedicated volunteer groups around the State which also organise fundraising activities, such as the Adelaide Icons.

The Adelaide Icons are a new group of dynamic, young professionals committed to supporting scosa by co-ordinating and hosting a series of stylish events and fundraising campaigns. The name Adelaide Icons was born from a desire to celebrate the very best of Adelaide; its iconic land marks, its people, businesses and long standing organisations such as the Spastic Centres - a known and respected Adelaide icon for more than 50 years.

For many of the Adelaide Icons' members, fundraising and events are nothing new as several of them were participants in the 'iconic' Miss South Australia and Miss Australia Quest. The Adelaide Icons are looking for ways to help a worthy cause, have a great time and raise funds to help support the services for people with disabilities. Adelaide Icons welcome new members and would be pleased to hear from anyone wanting to join the group.

Should you wish to become involved as a volunteer to help raise money for scosa, please call us on 8347 2664 or email us at info@scosa.com.au
