Donations in lieu of flowers
A memorial gift is a donation in lasting memory of a loved one and is a way of donating to scosa instead of giving or sending flowers. Your gift will ensure people with disabilities are recognised, respected and able to lead fulfilling lives. Your donations help scosa provide important developmental activities and skills for our clients to help them become valuable members of their local community.
What should you do?
Many people ask their friends and families to donate to scosa rather than sending flowers to funerals and memorial services in memory of loved ones who have passed on.
Such gifts may be encouraged in an obituary listing or ask your funeral director to add a sentence to the family in a funeral notice using the phrase 'In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to scosa the Spastic Centres of South Australia
How does someone arrange a memorial gift?
If you have requested that people make a memorial gift, they can do it in a number of ways:
- They can put their gifts into special postage paid envelopes which are available from your funeral director or from scosa.
- They can make a credit card donation by telephoning scosa on (08) 8347 2664
- To assist with your gift, you may care to contact our Donor Relations Manager on
- (08) 8347 2664
- Sometimes families invite a Spastic Centre representative to attend the service to help facilitiate the process of collecting gifts.
How is a memorial gift acknowledged?
scosa sends a letter to the bereaved family to acknowledge all memorial gifts received. (Gifts amounts are not disclosed and anonymity is preserved, if requested). We also send a receipt and letter of acknowledgement to each person who makes a gift. It is important to remember that all memorial gifts are tax-deductable. Every gift, large or small makes a difference.

Donations in lieu of Birthday Presents, Wedding, Anniversary and Engagement Gifts
An increasingly popular trend has been to donate to scosa in lieu of birthday presents, wedding gifts, or anniversary gifts. In fact, this type of donation is limited only by your imagination!
If you are getting married, or celebrating a birthday or anniversary, and would like to encourage donations to scosa in lieu of gifts, we suggest you insert the following phrase into your invitations:
"In lieu of gifts, we would appreciate contributions to scosa the Spastic Centres of South Australia Inc."
For further information or a sample invitation, please contact us on 8347 2664 or email us at info@scosa.com.au
If you choose to give a donation in lieu of any of these ways, you will receive a receipt from scosa. The person or family on whose behalf you have made your donation in lieu will be sent a separate notification letter by the scosa (without the amount of the gift) to let them know that a contribution was made by you to scosa in honour of their wedding or their birthday or anniversary.
