SHARE YOUR STORIESscosa, the Spastic Centres of South Australia hold a very special place in the hearts of South Australians and this year we celebrate 60 years of achievement, passion, commitment, our past and our future. As part of our celebrations we would love you to share your stories of scosa with us. Feel free to let us know about how someone you know has been supported by scosa or how you have supported us. Perhaps you were involved in the Miss South Australia Awards or were one of our fantastic volunteers. Over the past 60 years there have been thousands of wonderful stories and we would love to capture them all. It takes a little time to ensure all our stories are appropriate for publication on our website so thank you in advance for being patient and keep checking to see when your story is listed. Thanks
SAMPLE STORY:A little History60 years ago a group of frustrated, passionate, outspoken parents saw a major gap in services for people with disabilities and went about fixing it so that their children could receive all the benefits that other children received. Albeit services in those days were very limited when we compare today. Some of the services they fought for were education, care; medical services, support and most importantly love. And from this group The Spastic Centre was born The first incarnation "The South Australian Spastic Paralysis Welfare Association" or more fondly referred to as the "The Woodville Spastic Centre", initially offered child minding for the families but in a very short time the centre developed and began providing residential support, support for families, training, education, splint making, medical, nursing support, physiotherapy and speech therapy. It was a remarkable feat by this group of parents to establish, staff, run and build the Spastic Centre, with many of the original families forming the Committees and Boards to which the current organisation owe a huge debt of gratitude. |
